Royal Golf Challenge: the golfers' favourite event is back
On 22 and 23 October 2022, the Royal Golf Challenge returns to the Golf degli Ulivi Club, an annual competition that brings together and attracts countless golf enthusiasts.
Since the mid-1950s, the Royal Hotel Sanremo has allowed golfers to dedicate themselves to the competition, but also to enjoy the city's beauties and the timeless five-star welcome specifically designed for these sportspeople. This is an annual event that involves various local activities and will end with an extraordinary gala dinner at the Royal Hotel Sanremo.
The Golf degli Ulivi Club turns 90
Given the anniversary, the Royal Golf Challenge takes on an even more particular value this year. Indeed, the Golf Degli Ulivi Club celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2022.
It was Tuesday, 1 December 1931 when two English gentlemen and two golf teachers gave a demonstration of this sport's spectacular nature on a unique golf course because it was built on the sides of a hill between olive groves and mimosas. It was precisely the Golf degli Ulivi Club that was then officially inaugurated on 20 February 1932 and began attracting increasing numbers of tourists and golf enthusiasts, especially foreigners. They were the ones complaining about the lack of a golf course, but now their dreams had come true.
The Club endured the Second World War, the topographical changes related to the construction of the nearby Autostrada dei Fiori and after years of work, in 1972, the golf course finally took on the extraordinary current shape as we know it: 18 holes, par 69, 5,203 metres.
The Golf degli Ulivi Club, in addition to the Royal Golf Challenge, hosts several golf events from March to October and in 2016 was awarded the prestigious Federal Environmental Recognition "Committed to the green Cultural Heritage - Historical, artistic and cultural heritage".
Royal Hotel Sanremo, the Golf Destination for charming Liguria
The Royal Hotel Sanremo is therefore ready every year to welcome all golf sportspeople and enthusiasts for the Royal Golf Challenge. After all, the Riviera dei Fiori has been the perfect destination for golfers for 90 years.
Thanks to the collaboration with IAGTO, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, and the Italian representative in the company, over the years Liguria has literally been transformed into a Golf Destination of great appeal. Today, golfers increasingly choose the courses of Rapallo, Garlenda and Golf degli Ulivi Club as locations for their sports holidays.
